Today I got my official badge from #dswf. Super honoured and excited🤗🙏🏻 There are so, so many fabulous artists who have participated. It’s so wonderful to be able to be involved in such a prestigious exhibition but also one that does so much in the name of #wildlifeconservation.
The exhibition will be hosted on their website on 25th May - I’ll post a link on the day. Not long now!!! 🤗🐘🦏
Here you can see my entry (“The Axe Forgets but the Tree Remembers”), plus the postcard I did as part of the DSWF #sketchforwildlife. Each artist has been asked to donate a postcard sized piece of art. These will be for sale on 25th for £60 and 100% of proceeds will go to #dswf
The large rhino (see second and third image) will be for sale on the 25th but I will also be doing a limited edition print of which a percentage will also go to #dswf

💫’Inspiration exists, but it has to find you working’ said Pablo Picasso. Mmm, not so sure my studio director here has heard that one😂
For those of you who don’t know, this is Marley. He’s my shadow - or at least was until we moved. I was starting to think he didn’t like the new studio as he would rarely come in here. He’s pop in now and again but he just wouldn’t hang out here. I couldn’t work out why and to be honest it was bothering me. I’ve missed his company. Then low and behold today he has decided to come and check how things are going!😜 Hopefully we’ve turned a corner🙏🏻

Here are some fun facts about me so you get to know me a little better!
👉🏻 I once had a toad land on my back when I was sleeping😳 Grrrrrr!!
👉🏻 I’ve driven what’s considered to be the most dangerous road in the world - Old Yungas Rd in Bolivia (aka: “The Death Road”). Go Google it. What was I thinking right?!
👉🏻 I can’t stand tea or coffee (yes I know, weird and doubly weird as I’m British!)
👉🏻 I have visited 27 countries but still want to see more.
👉🏻 Elephants are my favourite wild animal

Unveiling and unwrapping!! It feels like Christmas! 🌲🤗
Just got three of my prints back from the framers @capepaletteart. So pleased with them, don’t they look fab?! All posh! I think it really helps to see them framed up. There are so many options I could have chosen but think this kiaat wooden frame with the white wash really draws out the images. What do you think?
I am planning to use them for an upcoming display at Fancourt soon so that people can see what my Limited Edition prints looks like. The quality of them is amazing thanks to @lightfarmza
My limited edition prints are available as standard or hand embellished (which means I have drawn or painted on them or added gold leaf). I am happy to advise on framing ideas if you need help - just shout x

Ever heard of Automatic Drawing? I haven’t tried it before today. It dates back to the Surrealists I think. The idea is to clear your mind and allow the drawing to flow - with no judgement or conscious thought. Kind of like doodling. Not sure it I seem to be obsessed with circles but this was my attempt today! It certainly does relax your mind. It’s a lot like meditation only maybe easier as there is something to focus on!

By experiencing art, it needs to provoke and emotion in us, a connection. Emotional responses are often regarded as the keystone to experiencing art. When we look at art, each expression, colour or symbol acts as a visual clue that triggers an emotional response by calling upon these deep-seated associations.

A look at another of the artworks currently hanging at Fancourt Hotel and Golf Estate. This is Zalkia, created using charcoal on canvas with African symbols in gold leaf. I love how she turned out - I wanted to capture the softness in her face and eyes as she gazes off into the distance, I wonder what she is thinking?! She looks rather regal I think (Hence her name which means well-born in Egyptian).

Getting messy! Experimenting today with a quick charcoal portrait on yupo paper. Yupo is a plastic paper so it’s really smooth which allows me to remove the charcoal with a wet cloth or blending stick rather than a rubber. It’s very different to working on a rougher surface like canvas or normal paper.
It’s nice to work more loosely when the mood takes me and who doesn’t love to get messy - at least once in a while?! I just have to be careful to check in the mirror before I go out anywhere - my face always gets itchy when my hands are filthy and I end up with charcoal smudges all over my face🙈😂

So super excited to announce that this artwork of mine has been shortlisted for the David Shepherd Wildlife Artist of the Year Competition in association with the BBC Wildlife Magazine. 💃💃🤗😍
It’s usually at the Mall Galleries in London but this year being the year that it is, we are online.
Competition winners are announced end of May so keeping everything crossed for all those shortlisted.
The title of this one is The Axe Forgets but the Tree Remembers (African Proverb) and highlights the trauma inflicted on our beautiful rhinos and the severe danger they are in.
If you are in the UK, keep an eye on the BBC wildlife magazine over the next couple of months. 🦏
